#1 Best-Rated Portable Speaker: Soundcore Trance
Soundcore Trance Portable Bluetooth Speaker Specs:
|
Pros | Cons |
✔️Loud 80 watts sound output ✔️18 hours battery life ✔️Carry handle on the top | 🚫Takes some time to reach full charge 🚫Weighs around 8 lbs
|
There’s nothing quite like the Soundcore Trance speaker. It’s one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers we have tested, delivering up to 101 dB of sound with deep bass and rousing melodies. The entire speaker is powered by a front facing 5.25 inch woofer and 2 inch tweeter with passive radiators for huge sound performance. They are the ideal speakers for outdoor parties and barbecues where you just want to blast a huge amount of music with bass to get the party started.
What we liked most about this speaker is that it supports BassUp technology which uses a custom algorithm to analyse the sound signature and provide instant bass amplification. We tried out the BassUp feature that it does work – it adds a good amount of bass punch to this speaker, making it great for EDM and rock music genres.
The sound quality on this speaker is nice and the volume does not distort at maximum levels, which is really good for parties or just casual listening. This speaker has a tonne of output power and can easily drive a party from 30-50 people without any difficulty.
The speaker is fully waterproof and you can even throw it into the pool – while it floats on water. The entire speaker is IPX7 waterproof with tough casing that keeps the internal components dry at all times.
There’s also a beat-driven light show which the speaker can produce. It delivers 5 light modes that can really add to the party atmosphere and the light modes are controllable on the Soundcore app. You can watch the LED lights pulsate to the beat of the music, which is really fun to have.
The Soundcore Trance speaker uses the Soundcore app to control the EQ settings. You can choose from 3 party modes, or swipe the screen to get extra LED lightshow performances. The speaker also supports outdoor modes which amplifiers the bass for much harder hitting music sound.
Apart from the loud sound performance, the Soundcore Trance has a built-in battery life that delivers up to 18 hours of battery time – which is really impressive for a portable speaker! It also supports the latest Bluetooth 5.0 for high quality music streaming.
It’s not a small speaker, weighing roughly around 8 lbs. That said, the speaker has a tonne of power with loud volume output, and also comes with a nice carry handle at the top for easy portability.
The Verdict? If you are looking for one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers, go for the Soundcore Trance portable speaker. It’s a really powerful and heavy duty speaker that delivers 101dB of sound and up to 80 watts of power output. While it weighs slightly heavier due to its large frame, it has a nice portable handle at the top for you to bring it around easily.
#2 Best Sounding Portable Speaker: JBL Xtreme 2
JBL Xtreme 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker Specs:
|
Pros | Cons |
✔️Powerful deep bass performance ✔️IPX7 waterproof and portable ✔️Carry-on strap included | 🚫Slightly pricey speaker 🚫Does not support true wireless stereo |
The JBL Xtreme 2, an upgraded version of the JBL Xtreme speaker, is definitely one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers you can find. This speaker has one of the best sound signatures that we have tested so far, deliver everything from crystal clear highs to detailed midranges and stunning bass. This speaker has a built-in battery that delivers up to 15 hours of playtime on a single charge, and is IPX7 waterproof for outdoor activities by the pool or beach.
We were very impressed with the sound quality, versatility, design and portability of the Xtreme 2. It is a relatively large speaker but with a portable design, and we found it easy to carry around with the included carry on strap.
The sound quality on the Xtreme 2 is superb – one of the best we have heard. It has pretty impressive range and especially nice clear bass response that really feels tight and punchy. The bass is impactful and does not muddy into any of the midrange frequencies. They are great for EDM and pop music genres where the vocals, bass and beats can really shine through. This is a speaker that is definitely worth listening to.
The only downside that we found from this upgrade was that the Xtreme 2 lacks the ability to daisy chain – as with all JBL Connect+ speakers. While this speaker will pair wirelessly to your smartphone device without any difficulties, we found that the Connect+ app not really user-friendly and sometimes unclear to use. You can also adjust the EQ settings on the app, although it doesn’t come with a volume or EQ indicator within the app.
Surprisingly, the Xtreme 2 is highly portable despite weighing a huge 2.4 kg. It comes with a portable strap that you can use to carry the speaker on your shoulder. The built-in battery also works like a charm, delivering a grand total of 15 hours of playtime on a single charge. That’s a lot of power built into a portable speaker with such loud volume output.
While JBL doesn’t publish how many watts the Xtreme 2 has, we know that the Xtreme 2 is powered by an internal amp that delivers 10 watts to each speaker driver – meaning that it has 40 watts RMS total power. This is roughly as loud as the JBL Boombox on battery mode (the Boombox has 60 watts RMS when connected to AC power).
What we particularly loved about the Xtreme 2 is the dual side firing woofers that come with the speakers. These passive-subs vibrate and move to the beat of the music, and you can literally feel the bass coming from these side radiators. This portable speaker has some of the best bass you’ll ever hear in a portable speaker, and works great for barbecues, parties and outdoor camping.
The Verdict? The JBL Xtreme 2 is hands down one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers with 40 watts RMS power and 15 hours of battery life. This thing gets incredibly loud with deep bass tones and details, and has some of the best sound quality we have heard from a portable speaker. Furthermore, this speaker is IPX7 waterproof and can be control via the JBL Connect+ app which you can download from the app store. While this portable speaker doesn’t come cheap, it has really versatile features and we highly recommend them for music lovers.

The speaker is designed to be lightweight and durable, and can be easily hand carried or attached to your backpack on the go.
The speaker itself comes with 10W drivers and a HD stereo radiator. This allows the speaker to deliver crisp sound with a measure of stereo separation which we liked. Music performances especially vocals were presented accurately with little distortion at maximum volume levels.
Furthermore, the VTIN R4 speaker is designed to be IPX5 waterproof which resists water sprays, dust and sand. It is durable enough to adapt to outdoor environments, and you can take this speaker for swimming, beach parties or harsh environments whether it rains or not.

The Verdict? If you are looking for one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers on a budget, go for the VTIN R4 speaker. This speaker delivers crystal clear sound, detailed midranges and powerful bass despite its small size. We were pretty much surprised at how loud these speakers straight out of the box in full stereo blast mode – producing clear details with virtually no distortion.

From what we have heard, the XB12 is definitely a small and compact speaker that packs a huge punch.
We thoroughly enjoyed the sound performance from the XB12 portable speaker. It sounds tight, punchy and crisp with nice volume levels. It’s especially good for EDM, rock and hip-hop music with the extra bass feature that ramps up the lower frequencies a few notches higher. We also played a couple of songs via YouTube streaming and found that the speaker did not have any lag or dips in sound quality. Everything sounded sublime and crystal clear.
And the SRS-XB12 also supports true wireless stereo modes. This allows you to wirelessly connect 2 speakers and achieve active stereo sound with the built-in speaker add function.
The main thing to note about the XB12 is that is designed primarily for portability. You can use the detachable carry strap to hang, carry or clip the speaker to your backpack or bicycle while on the go. This makes the speaker easy to carry and bring around with you wherever you go.
Furthermore, we liked that the XB12 is IP67 waterproof – it comes with a durable waterproof casing which allows you to take the speaker to the pool or beach without having to worry about damaging the internal components. They are all well-protected from splashes of water and sudden drops.
What we really liked about the XB12 is also its long battery life – this tiny speaker packs an impressive 16 hours of battery life on a single charge, which means that you can play music all day and never run out of battery on this little beast.
The Verdict? There’s a reason why the Sony SRS-XB12 remains one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers of all time – it delivers crisp sound performance, loud volume and deep bass in a compact design. It comes with a long lasting battery life of 16 hours, and even supports true wireless stereo modes for double the sound output. It is also IP67 waterproof and suitable for beach and pool parties without you having to worry about water splashes and sudden drops. There’s a lot of power that you can get out of this little beast and we highly recommend them.

You can also keep this speaker plugged into AC power to remain powered while playing music.
We were incredibly surprised by how loud and powerful the sound from the UE Hyperboom sounded. The highs and midranges are crisp and very clear, and the bass feels deep and powerful. At full volume, you can literally feel the bass across the room. Vocals and dialogues remain clear at high volume levels without a hint of distortion.
Furthermore, the Hyperboom is spill and splashes proof – it has an IPX4 rating which means that it can operate smoothly under outdoor conditions under rain or splashes of water. You can take it to the pool or to the beach without any issues – just don’t fully immerse the speaker into water.
There’s also a Party Up feature which allows you to pair multiple speakers together with the Hyperboom. This includes any UE Boom or Megaboom speaker or even another Hyperboom speaker to double or triple your total sound output. This allows you to boost your total volume output by the number of speakers that connect to a single music source.
Because the Hyperboom has such a large battery, it has a USB charge out feature that can even charge your phone on the go.
We liked the one touch music controls which allow you to play, pause and skip tracks directly on the speaker. You can also set up one-touch to your playlist via the integrated app.
The Verdict? The UE Hyperboom is one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers that built for extreme sound output. This beast can pump out more sound than the UE Megaboom or UE Boom, and is designed for large scale indoor or outdoor parties. We particularly liked the bass response from this speaker which feels so deep and tight – it feels like a mini subwoofer on its own. There’s also a built-in battery that has 24 hours of capacity. It’s the perfect speaker to have in your bathroom and sing-along with as you play your favorite music tunes.
The iFox speaker can deliver a good 5 watts of audio power. While it’s not the loudest, it is fairly decent considering how small the speaker actually is. Despite the speaker only having 5 watts of power, it delivers loud and crystal clear sound. The speaker does make a commendable effort to produce bass tones – and it does deliver some nice punchy beats.
