The Soundcore Boom 2 is the latest addition in the Soundcore line of Bluetooth speakers and this speaker is designed to deliver really loud sound performance with deep bass response. At 80W of output power, the Soundcore Boom 2 is much louder than the JBL Charge 5 (at 40W) and slightly less powerful than the JBL Xtreme 3 (at 100Ws). One of the key features that this speaker has is the BassUp 2.0 technology which allows you to boost up the bass EQ and increase the output power from 60W to 80W max with much deeper bass performance, making this speaker great for EDM and rock music performances.
The Soundcore Boom 2 speaker comes equipped with a 50W racetrack subwoofer and dual 15W tweeters which deliver crisp highs and nice midrange performance, and is designed for 2.1 stereo sound quality with decent separation between the right and left speaker channels. We compared the Soundcore Boom 2 to the JBL Charge 5 and found that the Soundcore Boom 2 delivered more louder sound performance with better soundstage which allows you to hear the difference between the right and left speaker channels. The bass function works great and the speaker can really add a tight punch to music performances if you choose to boost up the lower-end frequency.
Like the JBL Charge 5 or the JBL Xtreme 3, the Soundcore Boom 2 speaker is IPX7 waterproof and floatable on water which makes it a great choice to take with you outdoors. The speaker also supports PartyCast 2.0 which allows you to connect up to 100+ speakers to create a wider listening field.
If you are looking for a loud and portable Bluetooth speaker, the Soundcore Boom 2 is definitely a great alternative to the JBL Charge 5 or Xtreme 3 speaker.

Sound Performance
I really like the sound performance of the Soundcore Boom 2 speaker – this speaker gets really loud and has even more louder volume than the first generation Motion Boom speaker. Music performances such as Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and Charlie Puth’s “Attention” sounded really nice and punchy, and the highs and vocal performances are well-articulated. The stereo speaker does deliver nice treble ranges with its dual 15W tweeters and you can really feel how detailed the sound performance is on this speaker – vocals have surprising depth and timbre ranges, and the Soundcore Boom 2 delivers really good dynamic range.
Compared to the JBL Charge 5 or the JBL Xtreme 3, I felt that the Soundcore Boom 2 actually delivers as much bass as the Xtreme 3 speaker and sounds even deeper than the JBL Charge 5 – which is rather surprising as JBL speakers are known to deliver really nice bass and deep low-end response. I would just caveat here that while the Soundcore Boom 2 delivers really good bass, the bass starts to taper off at lower volume levels (and sounds rather weak at lower volume levels), while the bass on the JBL Charge 5 or Xtreme 4 speakers sounds consistent even at lower volume levels. The JBL speakers are better than the Soundcore Boom 2 when it comes to delivering consistent bass notes at lower volume levels.
I would say that the sound profile of the Soundcore Boom 2 speaker is relatively well balanced and it does get the right balance between the highs and midranges – Soundcore really got their tuning right with this speaker and it can handle almost any type of music gerne that you can throw at it.
Design and Specs
The Soundcore Boom 2 speaker has a durable portable construction with great build quality – it is solid and made from hard plastic all around with a sturdy metal grill which its it a really nice front appearance. I really like the battery life on this speaker (it doubles both as a built-in power bank to keep your phone fully charged) and it can easily deliver up to 20 to 24 hours of playtime depending on your volume output (around 16 hours at 50% volume setting). This speaker also comes with nice LED lights at the sides and you can tune up the brightness depending on how bright you want to speaker to look.
Like the other JBL speakers, the Soundcore Boom 2 is fully IPX7 waterproof and designed to float on water, making it great for taking it with you to the pool or for beach parties. This speaker weighs around 3.66 lbs which is not too heavy and easily portable.
Finally, you can also use the Soundcore app with EQ customization to change the EQ settings, or lighting effects which is really useful (the speaker features beat-sync color light shows which is similar to the JBL Pulse 5 speakers).
The Verdict?
I really liked the fact that Soundcore really upped their game with the Soundcore Boom 2 speaker – this speaker sounds incredibly well balanced with crystal clear highs, present midranges and very good bass response. The BassUp feature also makes this speaker sound very tight and punchy and they deliver superb sound performance on par with the JBL Charge 5 or the Xtreme 3. You can also push up the volume on this speaker up to 80W using the BassUp feature to boost the volume if you need to blast music at large outdoor parties. The speaker also has a really sleek and clean design with captivating LED lights and superb battery performance – it essentially has all that you would want in a portable Bluetooth speaker and it’s a speaker that I would highly recommend getting.
